That Good Night
It is in the quiet,
when the sounds around me
are limited to wonder,
the soft repeat of hands,
that do tell the time
without ever needing eyes.
I wonder sometimes how easy it is
to decide this is more important
than anything else that someone other
than me would find more prevalent
in the need to show purpose.
Yet I do understand their time is my chosen
journey and in order to find promise,
they must have confidence,
instilled by a leader …
and then the laughter begins,
I ask the world around me to show me the reason
I might be in this position anyway.
Then finally, when it all settles, I think of you,
and my peace of the world becomes truth,
is knowing your love is always free.
