I stood alone
wondered about now
opposed to when
didn’t have to,
no need to,
always knew
and yet,
even then there was a certain
misgiving
because
we both
understood
we could not
we didn’t, we had no way of knowing
we could not
count on
us
being forever.
I stood alone at midnight
listened to the quiet sky.
