If I had the right music,
I could close my eyes
and imagine you,
playing a song in my head,
I wander along
some distant avenue.
If I could pretend
the beat of the melody
could act like your heartbeat,
then I would be home again.
I sometimes want
to return to my hometown
replay familiar moments,
when you and I did dance,
and find a way
to look into your eyes,
I mean really look
and not glance away.
I wonder if then we might meet
on some universal plane
where we would find it impossible
to deny each other’s presence
and instead
heart and soul
love each other in the quiet night.
Close your eyes and tonight
I’ll hope I find you standing there.
