It is not easy
being in love
moments of worry
timely disturbance
I remember one time
an escort home
she inside the circus
of his inebriation.
It was not easy
living with controversy
though changes made
could never impel
the attrition of disgust
riding a sea of discontent.
It wasn’t easy
even when love
takes a side street
there is a reason
a fulfillment
suggests later in life
main-street
with the one we love.
